DRAVUNI ISLAND, FIJI
A perfect example of timelessness, Dravuni Island is a Pacific island virtually unchanged for thousands of years. Dravuni Island is a very small island at the northern end of the Kadavu Group. It is virtually surrounded by the Great Astrolabe Reef, renowned as a diver's paradise. The reef was named after French explorer Dumont d'Urville's ship "Astrolabe", which struck the reef in the 1820’s. There are no vehicles, no department stores, no cinemas. In fact, nothing much at all that tells you we are living in the 21st century. It is one of the Pacific's most unspoilt destinations. It is also one of the least populated islands in the Fijian islands group, with less than 200 inhabitants.Dravuni is a volcanic island in the Kadavu Group of islands in Fiji. Covering an area of 0.8 km², it is located at 18.78° South and 178.53° East, and reaches a maximum altitude of 40 metres.
